Kristiann Smith, MS, LMFT
As your counselor, I look forward to helping you overcome the obstacles you face and find hope in the midst of difficult circumstances. I will encourage you to see the gifts and strengths God has given you, and show you how to use those assets to your advantage for your own personal growth and healing. Together we’ll develop an action plan to ensure that your treatment will result in the positive changes you desire as we lean on the grace and power we possess through Jesus Christ.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor
My goals as your counselor are to help you:
- Find hope in the midst of the storm and strength to walk through the storm to the other side
- Recognize and build on your strengths
- Realize that you have a purpose, cause, and reason to be here right now, at this time in history
- Understand that God has gifted you in a unique way to help others find hope in Jesus Christ
What I Offer in Christian Counseling
I offer compassion and empathy as I listen to your story and your goals for treatment. After hearing your primary concerns and desired changes, I will work with you to create a practical and realistic roadmap to achieve your goals. I will partner with you to see life-affirming and enhancing results. For those who are interested, I also offer the option to open in prayer and to incorporate the Bible into our sessions.
My Approach to Christian Counseling
I believe that our only true hope is found in Jesus Christ. He is the answer and understands what it means to be human, having felt all that we have felt and ever will feel. Without Him at the center, we are left with human willpower and techniques, neither of which can be trusted when tough times come. My faith spurs me on to want to share the hope that is within me and stand together with others on their journeys to wholeness.
Qualifications & Experience
I’ve been counseling for more than 20 years and I’m qualified as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in both Washington and California.
I earned both my BA in Psychology and MS in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University in Riverside, CA. In addition, I am a Specialist in Infant and Preschooler Mental Health and trained in Level I Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM). I also have a certificate in Serving Our Veterans.
My Call to Christian Counseling
Even from a young age, people were drawn to me to discuss and think through the challenges they were facing, irrespective of their age. I’ve always enjoyed working with people to find hope and biblical solutions to their problems, so Christian counseling seemed a natural fit.
More About Me/On a Personal Note
My daughter and I love to watch movies together. I also enjoy watching her play basketball and having a hot cup of cocoa on the cool PNW mornings.

Grief and Loss
Sometimes we experience expected grief after a loss such as death. Occasionally, that sense of loss can turn into depression and hopelessness, seeming like a dark cloud enveloping us day and night. Divorce, moving away from our support system, surgeries/loss of limbs or other body parts and numerous other circumstances in life can also leave us grappling with grief and loss that is unrecognized and honored as such. Sometimes we think we should just spring back after so many of these losses, not giving ourselves the grace and permission to pause and work through the emotions.
I can help you with the losses experienced through all of the scenarios listed above and more. I’ve experienced God’s healing both emotionally and physically and know that it is never His intention for us to become lost in our suffering. He is there to help; and He uses Christian grief therapists to come alongside you to be His hands and feet.
Counseling with Teens
So often parents and teens don’t understand one another and may even feel that they don’t like each other. Finding common ground is definitely achievable, especially if at least one party is open to inviting Christ into the situation. Usually teens just don’t want to feel hassled, and parents don’t want to nag. Everyone wants some peace, respect, and to feel understood. Together we can work on and achieve these goals for your family relationships.
In codependent relationships, it’s common to feel as if you have lost yourself but still long to maintain connection with your partner. You may even feel out of control, particularly in relationships where your partner is dealing with addiction. But there is a way out. It takes courage to surrender to the Lord, Who made both you and your partner for more than the existence you are currently experiencing.
Maybe you’ve become codependent in your relationship with food, alcohol, drugs or your job. Codependency doesn’t have to be with another person. Let’s work together on you, the only one you have the power and control to change. I’ll be there with you; and most importantly, the Holy Spirit will be as well.
Darkness, lack of emotion, or an overwhelming sense of dread can be but a few of the indicators that you may be grappling with depression. Do you want to hide from family or social functions, stop attending church, or even shut God out by refusing to pray? Are you angry and irritable? Through our work together you can find hope and feel the wind in your face once again. I know it doesn’t feel like it right now; this is where that mustard seed of faith comes in. That’s enough for us to get going. Call today.
Do you seek to find a deeper personal connection with Jesus? He will meet you where you are. I want to help you develop your prayer and faith life with the help of the Holy Spirit. We can talk, read and pray together. Are you a minister or small group leader at a crisis or crossroads in your own faith, or struggling to take your congregation deeper into the Word of Life? If so, I would be honored to work with you.
