As a licensed counselor, it is my privilege to serve people who are struggling with life issues. You may be experiencing depression, anxiety, or marriage difficulties. Perhaps you have suffered a loss that has left you grief-stricken, you’re feeling overwhelmed, or you’re trying to figure out what God wants for you. Whatever your challenge, I believe God has a plan for your life that you have yet to discover—a path to health and wholeness. His plan is always a good one. With His help through Christian counseling, the problem you now face can become a catalyst to a new beginning.
Lacey – Mon, Wed & Sat
If you’re feeling stuck, discouraged, or without hope, I am here to help. As a professional therapist with more than two decades of experience as a pastor, I offer a compassionate listening ear and hope for your situation. As you share your burden, I will come alongside you to help shoulder your load. By combining the truths from God’s Word, my pastoral heart and experience, and proven therapeutic techniques, I believe you will find the solutions you’re looking for in order to experience the healing and peace you desire.
My Goal as a Christian Counselor
My goal is to offer professional counseling that instills hope and helps you find healthier ways to think and live. As you learn to change your thinking and outlook, you can discover new pathways that will lead to improved results and positive progress.
Another one of my goals is for you to gain sound counsel. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will guide each session, and that the one true Counselor will help you find health and healing in recovery.
What I Offer in Christian Counseling
I offer empathy, honesty, and a willingness to listen to and journey with your burdened soul as you seek to find recovery. The time we spend in session is for your benefit. As such, your agenda and well-being are my primary concerns. I will take time to genuinely understand what you’re going through so we can determine the best way to proceed on the path toward lasting healing, freedom, and joy.
My Approach to Christian Counseling
In Christian counseling, Scripture and prayer are not only spiritual interventions, but foundation stones to build on what Christ has done, is doing, and will do in each person’s life. Psychology becomes a “toolbox” for the client to use in the context of his or her life to help adjust, heal, and progress from past wounds and life challenges.
With God’s guidance and direction, I help people learn how to change their thinking and behavior to promote healing rather than remaining in old, destructive patterns.
Qualifications & Experience
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Washington, a Mental Health Professional (MHP) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).
I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling from The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary and a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Evangel University. Prior to counseling full-time, I served as a pastor for 23 years, offering pastoral counseling and premarital counseling whenever necessary. Since 2012, I have been working as an LMHC in Community Mental Health Centers in Missouri and Washington.
My Call to Christian Counseling
When I was a pastor, I used to help other pastors who were having difficult life experiences and needed someone to listen to them. During this time, the Lord laid it on my heart to become a professional counselor. Within a month or two, I resigned from my church, sold my house, and moved to Missouri to enroll in training. It evolved as a step-by-step process into a definite call from God.
More About Me/On a Personal Note
I have been married to my wife, Suzan, for the past 36 years. We have two grown sons and three dogs. I enjoy watching sports and am a fan of the SeaHawks.
When I was pastoring I had a couple of bouts with depression, which eventually led me to see a counselor for myself. This experience ultimately led me to decide to become a professional counselor. I believe I can help people who have depression due to my own life’s journey.
Areas of Expertise/Specialties
- Individual Counseling
- Grief and Loss
- Bipolar Disorder
- Marriage Counseling
- Premarital Counseling
- Aging and Geriatric Issues
- Spiritual Development
A person with depression often feels as one without hope. This can happen whether they have thoughts of self-harm or not. Through my own past experience with depression and the lens of the Bible, I help people find hope again. I encourage clients to explore interventions that help them focus their mind to keep them mindful and in the present.
A person with anxiety rarely feels rested. Difficult life circumstances, and unrealistic expectations from others and themselves can develop into severe anxiety. Most anxiety comes from past and future events of which we have no control. I help clients learn practical, effective techniques to keep their minds on the present and focus on the Lord, who tells us not to worry. Other interventions that help anxiety are sleep and nutrition.
Trauma comes in many forms and happens to many people. In session, clients with severe trauma can expect to find a listener who will help them identify triggers and, when they are ready, begin to rehearse trauma events in a safe environment to help them cope with the trauma. The “safe environment” includes special coping skills designed just for people who have experienced trauma.
Grief and Loss
As a caring, sympathetic counselor, I will help you understand that grief is an emotion and has a purpose. Grief is a process which has a beginning, middle, and an end. Loss is not limited to loved ones but can include loss of jobs, loss of relationships, and many other things that produce the emotion of grief. I will help clients understand that as Christians, we grieve but as those with hope.
Aging and Geriatric Issues
I have an affinity with older people. In dealings with my own parents and many others as a pastor, I have experiences which give me insight into the aging process. I help clients learn to cope with the many trials and tribulations that come with growing older. I believe that older people should be honored and listened to with respect. My client will be reminded that the Lord never leaves us or forsakes us and aging can be done with grace and dignity.
